CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Inaugurates Key Roads and Bridge to Boost Connectivity in Guwahati
Guwahati: In a major infrastructural boost for the city, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday inaugurated the upgraded Radha Govinda Barua Path and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Path, along with an RCC bridge over the Mora Bharalu river, adjacent to the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. The new roadways aim to enhance urban connectivity and streamline access to one of Guwahati’s premier sporting venues.
Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Path, spanning approximately 7.39 kilometers, begins from the Barsapara Cricket Stadium and extends to National Highway (NH)-27 near ISBT. Highlighting the significance of the project, the Chief Minister stated that the road, running parallel to the Mora Bharalu river, will serve as an alternative link to NH-27, benefiting areas such as Barsapara, Fatasil, Kalapahar, and Colony Bazar. This strategic connectivity is expected to ease movement between the city and the NH-27 bypass, facilitating better access to educational institutions and hospitals.
Addressing the gathering, Sarma emphasized that the improved road network will play a crucial role in managing traffic congestion during cricket matches at Barsapara Stadium. The roads will provide a seamless route for sports enthusiasts, reducing the load on main roads leading to the venue. Additionally, Radha Govinda Barua Road, another critical corridor, will enhance direct access to multiple entry and exit gates of the stadium and improve linkages with Guwahati Garbhanga Road.
The newly constructed RCC bridge over Mora Bharalu will further integrate the two roads, allowing visitors to move effortlessly between different sections of the stadium and beyond. The Chief Minister assured that several other road projects in Guwahati are also in the pipeline, aiming to modernize the city’s transportation infrastructure.
The project, executed at a cost of Rs 14.74 crore, was inaugurated in the presence of several dignitaries, including Minister of Power, Skill, Employment, and Entrepreneurship Prasanta Phukan, MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania, GMDA Deputy Chairman Mukuta Deka, and city councilors Manjita Doimary and Sandip Deb. The development marks a significant step in the government’s commitment to improving urban mobility and infrastructure in Assam’s capital city.
