Sikkim: Gyalshing District Bhutia-Lepcha Executive Body Inaugurated in Yuksam
Gangtok: A significant step towards strengthening community representation was achieved with the establishment of the Gyalshing District Bhutia-Lepcha (BL) Executive Body. The formation took place at Kathok, Yuksam, during a pivotal coordination meeting spearheaded by the President and Vice President of the State Level Bhutia-Lepcha Association. This move marks the initiation of a broader strategy aimed at creating executive committees across all districts within Sikkim.
The primary objective of these district-level committees is to foster improved coordination and effectively address the diverse needs of the Bhutia-Lepcha communities residing in the region. This inaugural district committee is anticipated to pave the way for the swift establishment of similar bodies in other districts, thereby amplifying the collective voice of the Bhutia-Lepcha population.
Participants at the meeting conveyed their profound gratitude for the tangible advancements witnessed by the Bhutia-Lepcha community since 2019. They specifically highlighted the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, acknowledging the government’s proactive role in mitigating community anxieties and ensuring the steadfast protection of Article 371F of the Indian Constitution, which provides crucial special provisions for Sikkim.
The newly constituted Gyalshing District Bhutia-Lepcha Association Executive Body comprises Thupden Rinzing Bhutia as President, Dawa Tshering Lepcha as Vice President, Ledup Dorjee Bhutia as General Secretary, Sonam Wangda Bhutia as Secretary, Karzang Bhutia as Treasurer, Karma Gurmey Bhutia, Lakpa Lepcha, and Pema Lepcha as Coordinators, and Sangey Chopel Bhutia and Passang Thendup Bhutia as Publicity Secretaries.
The district-level executive body’s formation was met with unanimous approval from the community members present, underscoring a unified commitment to advancing the interests and welfare of the Bhutia-Lepcha populace within Gyalshing district and beyond.
