Nagaland Assembly Approves Key Appropriation Bills, Greenlights Fiscal Measures for Future Spending
Kohima: The 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly’s sixth session culminated today with the passage of three critical Appropriation Bills, signifying a major step in the state’s fiscal planning.
These bills, presented by Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, who also serves as the finance minister, were unanimously approved by the assembly, setting the stage for financial allocations across multiple fiscal years.
Specifically, the Nagaland Appropriation (No. 1) Bill 2025 has authorized the withdrawal of Rs 14,51,00,000, earmarking these funds from the state’s Consolidated Fund for the financial year 2017-18. This allocation addresses previously outstanding financial obligations, reflecting the assembly’s commitment to resolving past fiscal matters.
Furthermore, the Nagaland Appropriation (No. 2) Bill, 2025, sanctioned the withdrawal of a substantial Rs 3131,67,67,000 from the Consolidated Fund, dedicated to expenditures for the ongoing financial year 2024-25. This significant allocation aims to support current state initiatives and operational costs.
The most substantial financial measure approved was the Nagaland Appropriation (No. 3) Bill, 2025, which authorized a withdrawal of Rs 24699,00,83,000 from the Consolidated Fund, designated for the financial year 2025-26. This allocation provides a framework for the state’s projected expenditures in the coming fiscal year.
In addition to these appropriation bills, the assembly also ratified the regularization of excess expenditure for the financial year 2017-18, following recommendations from the Public Accounts Committee’s 132nd Report 2023-24. The House also passed supplementary demands for grants for the year 2024-2025 and demands for grants for the year 2025-26, solidifying the state’s financial strategy for both the current and upcoming fiscal periods.
