Assam: Gauripur Bust Unearths West Bengal Buffalo Smuggling Ring

Guwahati: Gauripur police, in a swift operation, dismantled an intricate smuggling operation involving buffaloes, believed to have originated from West Bengal, destined for Dhubri.

The operation, executed in the Folimari Part-ll area of Gauripur, resulted in the seizure of four buffaloes, revealing an unexpected facet of illicit trade within the region.

The police action stemmed from credible intelligence, leading to the interception of a vehicle, bearing registration number AS-17C-5576, used for the transportation of the contraband animals. In a dramatic turn of events, the driver and an accomplice, upon noticing the approaching police unit, abandoned the vehicle and escaped, evading immediate capture.

A thorough search of the abandoned vehicle revealed the presence of two “improved breeds” of buffaloes, alongside two young cubs, indicating a sophisticated and potentially lucrative smuggling network. The discovery of the cubs suggests a deliberate effort to transport breeding stock, hinting at a larger, more organized operation.

The seized vehicle has been impounded and transported to the Gauripur police station, where it will undergo detailed forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation. Law enforcement agencies are now intensifying their efforts to identify and apprehend the individuals involved in this smuggling ring, aiming to dismantle the entire network and prevent future occurrences.
