Meghalaya Lok Adalat Settles 143 Cases, Facilitates Over ₹75 Lakh in Settlements

SHILLONG: A total of 143 cases were successfully settled during the National Lok Adalat held across Meghalaya, with settlements amounting to ₹75,18,326, providing much-needed relief to litigants and easing the burden on courts.

The event, organised by the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) under the guidance of Chief Justice IP Mukerji and the supervision of Justice H.S. Thangkhiew, aimed at expediting justice through amicable settlements.

A total of 1,065 cases were taken up during the Lok Adalat, including 737 pre-litigation disputes and 328 pending cases. Conducted under the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the initiative provided a platform for swift, out-of-court resolutions through mutual agreement.

Authorities highlighted the significance of Lok Adalats as an effective alternative dispute resolution mechanism, ensuring quicker, cost-effective settlements while promoting greater access to justice. The initiative continues to play a crucial role in reducing case backlogs and offering litigants a hassle-free legal redressal system.
