Sikkim CAP Member Quits, Citing Leadership’s Anti-State Rhetoric
Gangtok: A significant rift has emerged within Sikkim’s Citizen Action Party (CAP) as Bharat Basnet, a general member, announced his resignation, attributing his decision to what he describes as persistent anti-Sikkim statements from the party’s leadership.
In a formal letter sent to the CAP president, Basnet articulated his profound dissatisfaction with the recurring verbal assaults on Sikkim by the party’s senior figures, revealing that these pronouncements had caused him considerable personal distress and ultimately compelled him to sever his association with the organization.
“It has become untenable for me to remain affiliated with a political entity that consistently disregards the feelings of the Sikkimese people. The ongoing disparaging remarks directed at our state have been deeply troubling,” Basnet conveyed in his resignation document.
Accompanying his resignation, Basnet offered an apology to his former party colleagues, acknowledging the potential disruption and disillusionment his departure might elicit, while maintaining his decision was unavoidable.
The fallout from Basnet’s resignation has ignited a flurry of debate within Sikkim’s political landscape, prompting widespread scrutiny of CAP’s position on matters concerning the state’s interests.
