Assam to Resound with Unified Voice as One Crore Sing State Anthem

Guwahati: In an unprecedented move designed to bridge cultural divides, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has declared a statewide initiative wherein one crore citizens will simultaneously perform the state anthem, “O Mur Apunar Desh.” This mass rendition, a first of its kind, is intended to foster a profound sense of unity and shared identity across the diverse communities inhabiting Assam.

During the Assam Budget 2025 discussions within the legislative assembly, Chief Minister Sarma revealed the ambitious plan, emphasizing its pan-regional reach. “This year,” he articulated, “from the Barak Valley to the Bodoland Territorial Region, from Haflong to Karbi Anglong, encompassing the entire geographical expanse, one crore people will come together to sing ‘O Mur Apunar Desh.’” The Chief Minister further underscored the significance of this performance, stating that it will be presented in its authentic, original form, as penned by Lakshminath Bezbaroa. This version, he clarified, will transcend linguistic barriers, containing neither exclusively Assamese nor Bengali words, thereby ensuring its resonance with every tribe and community residing in Assam.

The core objective of this initiative lies in solidifying the spirit of inclusivity and celebrating Assam’s rich cultural heritage. By uniting diverse ethnic groups under the shared experience of singing the state anthem, the government aims to reinforce a collective sense of belonging and cultural pride. Details regarding the specific date and logistical arrangements for this large-scale singing event are anticipated to be disclosed in the near future.
