Meghalaya: Tura Government Medical College Nears Completion with Central Government Support

Shillong: The Tura Government Medical College in Meghalaya is nearing completion, with 75% of the project finished, thanks to significant financial backing from the central government.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh shared this update with the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on March 12 during the Budget Session.

The project, being constructed on 99 acres of land donated by a local clan, has received substantial financial support from the Government of India. According to Lyngdoh, the central government has sanctioned Rs 170.10 crore for the project, with Rs 185.65 crore released to the Project Management Consultant (PMC) and Rs 178.66 crore disbursed to the contractor through the PMC.

The medical college is expected to significantly enhance healthcare infrastructure in the Garo Hills region, which has long struggled with inadequate medical facilities. Once completed, it will reduce the need for patients to travel to Shillong or Guwahati for specialized medical treatment, providing much-needed relief to the local community.
