BJP Secures Resounding Victory in Mizoram’s Village Council Elections
Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged victorious in Mizoram’s village council elections, winning 64 out of 88 village councils in the Chakma Autonomous District Council. The party secured 366 seats, with 304 designated as general and 62 as reserved, out of the total 516 seats.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed “heartfelt gratitude” to the people of Mizoram for giving the party a “resounding mandate”. He congratulated the party workers in Mizoram, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for pushing development in the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also thanked the people of Mizoram, attributing the victory to Modi’s influence and development initiatives.
The BJP’s victory is seen as a significant political gain in the region. The party’s performance surpassed that of the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), which won 12 councils, and the Mizo National Front (MNF), which secured 8 councils. The Congress failed to secure a majority in any council.
Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Mizoram on March 15 as part of his three-day trip to the northeast. During his visit, he will attend a function for shifting of Assam Rifles establishments from Aizawl to Zokhawsang and is expected to meet party workers.
