Assam: Bhutan Police to Receive Training at Lachit Barphukan Police Academy, Strengthening Regional Security Ties

Guwahati: Assam Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika proudly announced that Bhutan Police will soon undergo training at the prestigious Lachit Barphukan Police Academy, further solidifying Assam’s role in enhancing security forces across the region.

Hazarika shared the news with the media, emphasizing the academy’s growing importance as a leading institution for law enforcement training in India.

“It is a matter of great pride for us,” said Hazarika, highlighting that the academy has previously hosted training sessions for the newly recruited Manipur Police and is currently training the Goa Police. With Bhutan Police joining the ranks, the academy is establishing itself as one of the finest police training institutions in the country, setting high standards for law enforcement personnel.

The announcement coincides with the upcoming visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Assam. Shah, who will begin his tour on March 14 in Jorhat, is scheduled to inaugurate the upgraded Lachit Barphukan Police Academy as part of his broader efforts to enhance Assam’s law enforcement infrastructure. The visit is also expected to include a review of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita implementation with Chief Ministers from northeastern states in Guwahati on March 16.

Further strengthening Assam’s strategic role in policing, Shah will travel to Mizoram on March 15 and return to Assam to attend the final session of the 57th Annual Conference of the ABSU in Kokrajhar on March 16.

The training of Bhutan Police at Lachit Barphukan Police Academy underscores Assam’s pivotal role in bolstering regional security preparedness and strengthening ties with neighboring countries, positioning the state as a hub for police training excellence.
