Amit Shah Attends Assam Rifles Land Transfer Ceremony in Mizoram, Paving Way for Aizawl’s Urban Expansion

Aizawl: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday presided over the land transfer ceremony between Assam Rifles and the Mizoram government in Aizawl, a landmark event marking the relocation of Assam Rifles’ establishments from the heart of the city to Zokhawsang.

The long-awaited move addresses a decades-old demand for shifting the military camp to make way for urban development in the Mizoram capital.

Speaking at the event, Shah underscored the significance of the decision, calling it more than just a relocation. “For about 35 years, due to the topography and dearth of space, there was a demand to shift the Assam Rifles camp. If we have to develop Aizawl city, space constraints were a major hurdle. Today, with an important decision by PM Modi, this long-pending demand has been fulfilled,” he stated.

The relocation is expected to unlock prime land in Aizawl, facilitating infrastructure development and urban expansion while allowing Assam Rifles to continue their operations from the new site. Shah reiterated that the move is not merely administrative but a reflection of the central government’s commitment to the well-being and progress of the Mizo people.

The decision aligns with the Centre’s broader vision for Northeast India, promoting balanced urban growth and modernization. By addressing space constraints in the city while ensuring the operational efficiency of Assam Rifles, the transfer marks a step forward in both strategic planning and regional development initiatives.
