Aizawl: Aizawl FC secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Delhi FC in their I-League clash on Sunday, climbing out of the relegation zone for the first time this season. Winger Lalbiakdika was the star of the match, scoring a brace in the 40th and 77th minutes to help his team claim all three points.
The win brought Aizawl to 19 points from 19 matches, lifting them above the bottom two, although they have played one more game than SC Bengaluru. Delhi FC remains at the bottom of the table with just 13 points from 19 games, facing a tough challenge to avoid relegation.
Aizawl dominated the early stages of the match, with Lalthankhuma’s header narrowly missing the target and Laltlanzova wasting a golden opportunity from close range after a goalkeeping error by Debnath Mondal. However, the breakthrough came in the 40th minute when a misdirected clearance fell to Lalbiakdika, who calmly controlled the ball, beat his marker, and fired it past Mondal at the near post.
The second half saw Aizawl maintain their control, with Lalbiakdika doubling their lead in the 77th minute. He latched onto a through ball, rounded the substitute goalkeeper Lalmuansanga, and slotted the ball into an empty net. Despite some late pressure, Delhi FC failed to break Aizawl’s defense, leaving them with a crucial win in their fight to stay in the league.
