Sikkim Olympic Association Unveils New Leadership for 2025-2029 Term

Gangtok, Sikkim – In a landmark election held on March 16th, the Sikkim Olympic Association (SOA) has ushered in a fresh executive body set to guide the region’s sporting future through the 2025-2029 term. The electoral process, meticulously executed under the auspices of the SOA Constitution, was marked by its transparency and adherence to established protocols.

The election, a pivotal moment for Sikkim’s sporting community, was conducted under the watchful eyes of key officials. Lakhya Konwar, Secretary General of the Assam Olympic Association, representing the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), and Nabin Lama, Deputy Director of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim, ensured the proceedings’ integrity. With the Returning Officer declaring all candidates elected unopposed, the new leadership was confirmed.

Kuber Bhandari has been named President, charting the course for the association’s future. He will be supported by Vice Presidents Chewang Zangpo Bhutia and Tashi Ongdup Lepcha. Jas Lal Pradhan will assume the role of General Secretary, with Bhim Bdr Subba and Mahindra Dhakal serving as Joint Secretaries. Sangay Palzang Bhutia has been appointed Treasurer, managing the financial aspects of the SOA. The Executive Members, contributing their expertise, include Phuntshok Chopel Bhutia, Bijoy Gurung, Arun Kumar Gurung, and Suman Tamang.

The newly installed executive body has articulated a clear vision for the coming term, emphasizing the advancement of sports within Sikkim. Their strategic objectives include bolstering athlete training programs, upgrading sports infrastructure, and fostering increased representation in both national and international sporting arenas. The leadership’s focus is set on elevating Sikkim’s sporting prowess and creating a robust platform for local athletes to excel.
