Manipur Security Forces Net Five Insurgents and Drug Trafficker in 48-Hour Sweep
Imphal: Between March 16th and 17th, 2025, security forces in Manipur conducted a series of targeted operations, resulting in the apprehension of five active cadres from various insurgent groups and one individual suspected of drug trafficking. The operations yielded a substantial cache of incriminating materials, including firearms, mobile communication devices, and illicit substances.
The first arrest occurred on March 17th, when Lourembam Brojen Singh, also known as Dyson, aged 50, an active member of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), was taken into custody at Langol Game Village Zone III, near the Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation, within the Lamphel Police Station jurisdiction of Imphal West District. Authorities confiscated two mobile handsets, a two-wheeler, and an Aadhaar card during the operation.
Simultaneously, Manipur Police detained Athokpam Romiyo Singh, alias Ngamba, aged 44, in Wangoi. Singh, a former RPF/PLA member who had transitioned to the PREPAK/UPPK faction, was implicated in extortion activities targeting civilians, government employees, and local businesses. The seizure included two mobile phones equipped with Airtel SIM cards and an Aadhaar card.
Further operations led to the apprehension of two cadres from the KCP(PWG) group. Laishram Tomba Singh, aged 33, was arrested at his residence in Haoreibi Mayai Leikai, Imphal West District, also for involvement in extortion. A mobile phone was recovered from his possession. Khundrakpam Michael Singh, aged 33, was detained in Ningthoukhong Kha Keirungbam Leikai, Bishnupur District. Subsequent interrogation led to the discovery of a concealed weapons cache, which included a 9 mm pistol with an empty magazine, four 9 mm bullets, one 9 mm empty shell, one AK live round, one 7.62 mm live round, two .303 live rounds, a mobile phone with two SIM cards, and an Aadhaar card.
On March 16th, Martin Pratinlen Kilong, aged 23, was arrested in Kuljang Village, under Molcham Police Station, Chandel District, on suspicion of drug trafficking. Authorities seized 137 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar, weighing approximately 5.48 kg including packaging, a four-wheeler, two mobile phones, and an Aadhaar card.
The recent operations underscore the heightened efforts of security forces to dismantle insurgent networks and combat drug trafficking within the region, aiming to restore and maintain law and order in Manipur.
