Meghalaya: Eastern West Khasi Hills Set for Vocational Boom with Three New Centres in 2025-26
Shillong: The landscape of Eastern West Khasi Hills is poised for significant transformation, with the announcement of three new vocational training centres slated for the 2025-26 financial year.
Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh revealed the ambitious plan during the Skillerate Connect 2025 event, held yesterday at Kynshi Football Ground.
Minister Lyngdoh detailed that the forthcoming centres will offer diverse training programs, spanning hospitality, information technology, and traditional crafts. This strategic move underscores the government’s dedication to fostering self-reliance by delivering targeted skills education to the region’s youth.
Addressing attendees at the two-day Skillerate Connect 2025, organised by the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), Lyngdoh emphasized that these specialized facilities will equip young people with essential, market-ready skills, directly combating unemployment within their communities.
Labour Minister Shakliar Warjri, who jointly inaugurated the Skillerate Connect 2025, acknowledged the persistent challenge of unemployment across Meghalaya. The event itself showcased the region’s entrepreneurial spirit, featuring over 60 exhibition stalls displaying the work of local artisans and entrepreneurs.
The event’s proceedings included inspiring testimonials from programme beneficiaries, notably commis chef Kyrshanborlang Marbaniang, who credited his career advancement to the culinary training he received through MSSDS-funded initiatives.
Eastern West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Anita Kharpor extended a warm welcome to attendees at the commencement of the Skillerate Connect 2025, which anticipates the participation of approximately 2,000 young individuals before its conclusion today.
