Meghalaya: Airport Employee Critically Injured in Early Morning Assault Near Umroi

Shillong: A 27-year-old female airport employee, Ellana Lyngdoh Mawphalang, sustained serious injuries following a brutal assault near Umroi Airport yesterday morning, as confirmed by Ri Bhoi Police.

The incident unfolded around 8:10 am on March 19, along the airport’s approach road, where Mawphalang was en route to her workplace.

The attack involved the use of a broken beer bottle and a stone, with the assailant striking Mawphalang multiple times. Law enforcement recovered these weapons from the scene of the crime.

Immediately following the assault, Mawphalang was transported to the Community Health Centre in Bhoirymbong.

However, due to the critical nature of her injuries, she was subsequently transferred to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong for urgent specialized treatment.

Authorities registered the case at 8:30 am, shortly after the incident was reported. In a swift turn of events, the suspect involved in the assault has been apprehended by the police.

The identity of the arrested individual is being withheld as the investigation remains ongoing.

Ellana Lyngdoh Mawphalang, a resident of Nongrah, Ri-Bhoi District, originally hails from Madanryting in East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya.
