Assam: Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Gears Up for Intense Poll Battle
Guwahati: The political landscape of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) is set for a dramatic shift as the April 2nd elections draw near, igniting a fierce competition among major political parties.
The RHAC, established to foster development and preserve the Rabha ethnic identity in Goalpara and Kamrup districts, will witness a crucial electoral contest across its 36 constituencies.
Numal Momin, Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly and a prominent BJP leader, has voiced unwavering confidence in the BJP-led NDA’s prospects, emphasizing the alliance’s strong public backing. Momin anticipates a decisive mandate from the electorate, with the final withdrawal of nominations looming, paving the way for an aggressive campaign season. The verdict of the people is slated for announcement on April 4th, marking a pivotal moment for the region.
Momin launched a scathing critique against the Congress party, asserting its decline due to leadership deficiencies and flawed policies. He further accused Congress of instigating communal discord in the Rabha Hasong region, exacerbating tensions among tribal communities. Conversely, Momin underscored the BJP government’s commitment to fostering peace since 2016, highlighting stability and development as paramount priorities.
Conversely, opposition factions, spearheaded by the Congress, have leveled accusations against the ruling alliance, alleging the neglect of critical local concerns and the marginalization of vulnerable communities. The RHAC elections will see 445,586 eligible voters, comprising 216,181 men, 229,394 women, and 11 others, exercising their franchise across 630 polling stations. The nomination deadline concluded on March 15th, with March 19th marking the final opportunity for candidate withdrawals. The vote counting and results will be announced on April 4th.
