Assam: Duliajan Net Snares Key Figure in Barak Valley Online Trading Fraud
Guwahati: In a significant breakthrough, Duliajan police have apprehended Sakil Ahmed, a crucial accomplice in the sprawling online trading scam that has devastated numerous investors across Barak Valley.
This arrest marks the latest development in the ongoing investigation into the fraudulent scheme that has reportedly siphoned off nearly Rs 150 crore.
Despite the apprehension of Ahmed, the alleged masterminds behind the operation, Shakir and Rajdeep, remain at large. Shakir, hailing from Bakharshal near Sribhumi city, and Rajdeep, a resident of Settlement, are believed to have orchestrated the elaborate scheme that lured unsuspecting individuals into investing in fictitious online trading platforms.
The scam’s modus operandi involved enticing investors with promises of substantial returns, prompting many to secure bank loans to participate. However, the promised profits never materialized, leaving countless victims grappling with severe financial hardship and emotional distress. To date, Shree Bhumi law enforcement has successfully arrested three individuals connected to the case, including Sakil Ahmed, who was captured in a late-night operation after an extended period of evading authorities. Ahmed, a resident of Badarpur, was tracked down in Duliajan, bringing a measure of progress to the ongoing investigation.
