Sikkimese Man Arrested in Siliguri for Alleged Marriage Pretext Deception
Gangtok: A 52-year-old man, Purna Kumar Subba, originally from Sikkim and currently residing in the Pradhan Nagar area of Siliguri, has been apprehended by local police on charges of fraud and sexual exploitation.
The arrest follows a complaint filed by a 26-year-old woman who alleges that Subba deceived her with false promises of marriage.
The woman’s formal complaint, lodged at the Pradhan Nagar police station on March 17th, detailed a two-year-long relationship that began after the pair met. She claims that Subba, in an attempt to solidify his commitment, gifted her a high-value flat, reportedly worth Rs 36 lakh.
However, the situation took a turn when Subba began demanding the property back and ultimately reneged on his promise to marry her, prompting her to seek legal recourse.
Acting on the complaint, Pradhan Nagar police officers successfully arrested Purna Kumar Subba on Wednesday. The subsequent day, Thursday, March 20th, saw Subba presented before the Siliguri court. Simultaneously, the complainant underwent a medical examination and her official statement was recorded before a magistrate, as part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged deception.
