Assam Class 11 Mathematics Exam Postponed Amidst Paper Leak Allegations, State Launches Investigation

Guwahati: The Assam government has launched a thorough investigation into the alleged leak of the Class 11 Mathematics examination paper, leading to its abrupt postponement. The exam, originally scheduled for March 21, 2025, has been delayed indefinitely, leaving students and parents in a state of uncertainty.

The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) issued an official notification announcing the postponement of the Higher Secondary First Year Mathematics paper, citing “unavoidable circumstances.” Initially, the board refrained from explicitly mentioning the reason for the cancellation.

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu subsequently confirmed the postponement via his social media platform, X, without divulging specific details. However, a senior board official later confirmed that the decision stemmed from a leaked question paper, prompting an immediate inquiry. “We are in the process of probing the matter, and action will be taken within the legal framework,” the official stated.

Adding to the disruption, the Class 9 English yearly examination in Assam’s Barpeta district, initially set for March 20, was also postponed due to a similar paper leak incident. A leaked question paper surfaced on social media platforms, forcing authorities to take swift action.

Ratul Kumar Das, the Inspector of Schools for Barpeta, issued a formal order to school heads, notifying them of the postponement due to “unavoidable reasons.” A member of the District Level Internal Examination Committee (DLIEC) revealed that the leak was discovered on March 19, triggering immediate intervention.

Following the discovery of the leaked Class 9 English paper, a formal complaint was lodged at the Barpeta Sadar Police Station, initiating a legal investigation into the matter. The education board has yet to announce revised dates for either the Class 11 Mathematics or the Class 9 English examinations.
