Congress MP Jairam Ramesh Welcomes Supreme Court Judges’ Visit to Manipur, Urges Broader Political Engagement

Imphal: Congress MP Jairam Ramesh has welcomed the visit of a six-member Supreme Court judges’ delegation to Manipur, emphasizing the need for broader political engagement in addressing the crisis in the violence-hit state.

Ramesh appreciated the Supreme Court judges’ visit, but hoped the government would facilitate an all-party delegation to visit Manipur soon. He also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include Manipur in his travel itinerary before heading to Bangkok on April 2.

Ramesh criticized the government’s handling of the situation, noting that while Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Mizoram and PM Modi traveled to Assam, neither has visited Manipur since the crisis began. He expressed concerns over the prolonged instability in the state, stating that it will take a long time for normalcy to return.

Ramesh stressed the importance of political intervention, calling for elections in Manipur as a step toward restoring governance. However, he alleged that achieving a political resolution will remain challenging as long as the BJP remains in power.
