Assam HS First Year Exams Abruptly Cancelled Amid Leak Fears
Guwahati: The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has dramatically halted all remaining Higher Secondary (HS) First Year Examinations for 2025, a decision stemming from escalating concerns over the compromised integrity of question papers.
This move follows the initial postponement of the Mathematics examination, originally set for March 21, 2025.
The turmoil began with the issuance of notification No. ASSEB-II/HS First Year/Instructions/2025/02 on March 20, 2025, which announced the postponement of the Mathematics paper due to alleged leaks.
Further investigations revealed that sealed packets containing the Mathematics question papers had been prematurely opened at several institutions on March 20, ahead of the scheduled second session of the following day.
Faced with the prospect of further leaks, given that all remaining question papers were already distributed and held within individual institutions across Assam, the ASSEB opted for a complete cancellation of the exams. These remaining examinations were slated to occur between March 24 and March 29, 2025.
The Board has scheduled a crucial meeting for March 24, 2025, to deliberate on the subsequent steps and strategies. The outcomes of this meeting will be communicated to all relevant stakeholders in due course.
Adding another layer of severity to the situation, the ASSEB had previously taken decisive action by suspending the affiliation of 15 private institutions across 10 districts in Assam. This suspension was a direct response to confirmed reports of the suspected Mathematics question paper leak.
