Assam: Tension Erupts in Srihumi Bypass Over Inter-Community Gathering, Four Detained

Guwahati: A tense situation unfolded in the Srihumi Bypass area on the night of March 23 after two Hindu women were allegedly found in the company of two men from a different religious community.

The incident escalated when members of the Hindu Suraksha Dal and local residents intervened, leading to the detention of all four individuals by the police.

According to reports, the confrontation occurred during an Iftar gathering in Thetipathar, where members of one community had invited individuals from another.

Upon learning about the gathering, local groups arrived at the scene, confronted those involved, and informed the police. Law enforcement officials subsequently detained the two men and two women, taking them to the police station for further questioning.

Local residents have expressed concerns over increasing nighttime activities in the bypass area. They allege that liquor bottles are often found scattered in the vicinity and that groups of young men and women frequently gather there on motorcycles.

Residents argue that the location is not a designated public space for such gatherings and have called on the district administration and community leaders from both Hindu and Muslim groups to take swift action to prevent further incidents.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the matter, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
