Meghalaya: Body of Missing Shop Owner Recovered from Umiam Bridge

Shillong: Meghalaya police have recovered the body of Pritish Deb, a local electronic shop owner, nearly 24 hours after he was reported missing following an apparent suicide at Umiam bridge.

The recovery was made possible by rescue teams from the state disaster response force and fire and emergency services, who located Deb’s body at 1:50 pm on Monday.

The search operation had been hindered by challenging weather conditions on Sunday, but fishermen in the area reported seeing Deb jump into the water, prompting an immediate search and rescue mission.

Investigators found that Deb, a resident of Kench’s Trace, had left his sling bag on the bridge, containing identification documents that helped his relatives confirm his identity.

Local law enforcement is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. While the exact cause of Deb’s death has not been determined, the case remains under active investigation.

The police are working to piece together the events leading up to the incident, and a thorough inquiry is underway.
