Arunachal: East Siang Police Seize 17.08 Grams of Heroin, Arrest Two Under Operation Dawn 2.0
Itanagar: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, East Siang Police in Arunachal Pradesh seized approximately 17.08 grams of suspected heroin and apprehended two drug peddlers during a surprise operation at Ruksin. The raid was conducted under Operation Dawn 2.0, an ongoing initiative to combat drug-related crimes in the district.
Acting on credible intelligence about the illicit sale of narcotics, the Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) of East Siang Police set up a surprise Naka (checkpoint) at Ruksin. The operation led to the arrest of two accused—Dadi Ering from Napit, Pasighat, and Kamin Mekir from Diking, Pasighat, both residents of East Siang district.
The operation was led by ADS in charge, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ayup Boko, along with Sub-Inspector Igel Lollen, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ruksin Police Station, Sub-Inspector Y. Lomri, OC of Sille Oyan Police Station, and other personnel. The search was conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, ensuring full compliance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
A case has been registered at Ruksin Police Station under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985, and further investigations are ongoing. Both accused have been taken into custody for questioning.
Superintendent of Police, East Siang, Pankaj Lamba, IPS, lauded the ADS team for their swift action and reiterated the district police’s unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related offenses. He also urged the public to report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that community cooperation is crucial to achieving a drug-free East Siang.
