Assam TMC Challenges RHAC Election Process, Alleges Irregularities

Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Trinamool Congress (TMC) has raised serious objections to the recent RHAC elections, alleging significant irregularities in the electoral process. The party has approached the court, challenging the Election Commission’s decision to classify its candidates as independents.

TMC filed a legal petition on April 26, questioning the validity of the commission’s decision. Addressing the media after the Gauhati High Court’s verdict on March 28, 2025, senior party leader Dulu Ahmed expressed concerns over the handling of postal ballots. He claimed that postal votes were cast before the official ballot papers included the party’s symbol and name for the April 2 election.

Ahmed also raised doubts about the fairness of vote counting in four contested constituencies—North Bongao, South Bongao, Bamunigaon, and Bandapara Parishad. He asserted that the current conditions made it impossible to ensure a transparent counting process and called for a comprehensive review of the electoral procedures.

The press conference, led by TMC Senior Vice-President Dulu Ahmed and district president Lawanya Boro, emphasized the party’s demand for a thorough investigation. The TMC leadership criticized the election process, insisting that the RHAC elections lacked transparency and fairness, and called for immediate corrective action.
