Tripura Government Enforces Zero-Tolerance Policy on Drugs, Says CM Manik Saha

The Tripura government maintains a zero-tolerance policy against drugs, Chief Minister Manik Saha asserted, revealing that 70 individuals had been convicted under the NDPS Act in the state over the past three years.

“Drugs are entering from Myanmar via Assam and Mizoram, while ganja is being smuggled out of the state,” he stated.

Responding to a notice from Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy in the Assembly on 1st April, the chief minister said law enforcement agencies had been instructed to adopt a strict approach towards the drug menace.

Highlighting ongoing efforts, he reported that 19 people were convicted in 13 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in 2022. In 2023, 20 people were convicted in 16 cases, while 26 individuals were convicted in 2024.

“By February 2025, five individuals had been convicted under the NDPS Act. In total, 70 people have been convicted in 52 cases from 2022 to February 2025,” he added.

Saha also noted that security agencies had seized a substantial quantity of drugs, including heroin, over the past two years.

“A total of 1.54 lakh kg of ganja was seized in 2022-23 and 2023-24, while 5.82 lakh bottles of banned cough syrup were confiscated, and 25.62 lakh yaba tablets were recovered during the period,” he stated.
