Arunachal Pradesh Launches Enforcement Drive to Protect Wildlife

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh’s Papum Pare Biodiversity Management Committee (PPBMC) has initiated a month-long enforcement drive across Itanagar to safeguard wildlife and curb illicit activities. The drive, which will continue throughout April and early May 2025, aims to monitor and prevent the illegal selling of wild meat, trading of forest items, drug-related activities, and other illicit operations.

To ensure comprehensive coverage, the Deputy Commissioner’s office has assigned 30 magistrates to conduct regular checks at various locations, including Gandhi Market, Ganga market to Chimpu market, Gohpur Tinali to Batt village, and Nirjuli, among others. Each magistrate has been allocated specific dates and locations to ensure thorough monitoring of key areas.

The initiative follows concerns raised by the PPBMC regarding the increasing number of shops and individuals openly selling wild animals and engaging in other illegal activities in the region. The Superintendent of Police, Deputy Chief Wildlife Wardens, and duty Magistrates have been instructed to enforce this order strictly, with defaulters to be booked under relevant sections of the law.

This collaborative effort between forest officials, police, and magistrates demonstrates the administration’s commitment to preserving Arunachal Pradesh’s rich biodiversity and enforcing wildlife protection laws.
