Security Forces Net Four Militants in Coordinated Manipur Operations

Imphal: In a series of swift and coordinated operations across Manipur, security forces have apprehended four militants belonging to two banned organizations, marking a significant blow to insurgent activities in the region. The arrests were made in separate locations within the Bishnupur, Thoubal, and Imphal East districts.

The initial breakthrough occurred in the Nambol area of Bishnupur district on April 4th, where two members of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (Pambei), or UNLF(P), were taken into custody. Their arrest followed the reported abduction of a 47-year-old man, Laitonjam Dilip Singh, from his residence in Imphal West. Acting on intelligence regarding the abduction, security personnel launched a targeted cordon and search operation.

The operation led them to the residence of one Khundrakpam Inaoton Singh in Nambol Phoijing Awang Leikai, where the two UNLF(P) cadres, identified as Khundrakpam Rakesh Singh, 30, and Khundrakpam Charles, 25, both residents of the same locality, were apprehended. Crucially, the abducted individual, Laitonjam Dilip Singh, was also successfully rescued during this operation. Authorities recovered the white Bolero vehicle reportedly used in the abduction, along with three mobile phones, a wallet containing ₹4,500, and a voter ID card from the possession of the arrested individuals.

Simultaneously, in a separate operation conducted on the same day, security forces in the Thoubal district successfully apprehended an active cadre of the Kangleipal Communist Party (PWG), identified as Ahongsangbam Naobi Singh, 42, a resident of Khongjom Kheba Ching. His arrest was made in connection with his alleged involvement in extortion activities within the Khongjom area. Recovered from his possession were pistols with magazines and live ammunition, a mobile phone with two SIM cards, and a two-wheeler.

Building on this success, security forces conducted a follow-up operation that resulted in the arrest of another active cadre of the KCP (PWG), Maibam Tomba Singh, 42, of Tentha Khunjao in Thoubal district. He was apprehended from his residence located in Khurai Kongpal Laishram Leikai. During the operation, authorities seized pistols with magazines and live rounds, along with two mobile phones containing two SIM cards, from his possession. These coordinated efforts underscore the continued commitment of security forces to maintaining peace and security in the state.
