Union Minister Dr Sukanta Majumdar Lauds DoNER’s Role in Transforming Nagaland’s Development Landscape

Kohima: Union Minister of State Dr Sukanta Majumdar has praised the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) for its transformative role in fostering balanced, sustainable, and inclusive growth across the Northeast.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Konyak Heritage Complex and the Aoleang Monyu festival in Nagaland’s Mon district, the Minister described the establishment of the DoNER Ministry as a pivotal step in the Government of India’s commitment to the northeastern states.

Majumdar highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the region has witnessed a substantial increase in focus, funding, and dedicated developmental efforts. Acknowledging the complex geographical and infrastructural challenges of the Northeast, he said the Ministry of DoNER has been instrumental in shaping targeted solutions that address local needs while encouraging national integration.

Citing official data, the Minister revealed that a total of 420 projects worth Rs 5,081 crore have been sanctioned for Nagaland under various DoNER schemes, of which 305 projects amounting to Rs 3,185 crore have already been completed. These completed projects, he noted, are directly benefiting communities across the state, enhancing connectivity, public services, and livelihood options.

Majumdar also drew attention to the government’s push for private investment in the region. Since 2023, nine investor roadshows have been conducted in key business hubs like Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad. These efforts have led to the signing of 82 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and investment intents, with a total commitment of Rs 8,671.2 crore poised to bolster Nagaland’s economy in the coming years.

Speaking on urban development, he said the Kohima Smart City Mission has seen an investment of over Rs 550 crore, significantly boosting infrastructure, sanitation, and digital connectivity. He also underscored the impact of NESIDS Infrastructure Projects in improving skill development facilities across the state.

In the tourism sector, Majumdar credited the Swadesh Darshan and PRASAD Schemes for revitalising Nagaland’s tourism circuits. These schemes, he said, are not only drawing more domestic and international tourists but also creating vital employment opportunities for local youth.

Reaffirming the Centre’s vision for an empowered and self-reliant Northeast, Majumdar concluded that Nagaland’s development journey is now backed by a solid foundation of policy support, investment, and cultural pride.
