Sikkim: Rabong Fest Buzzes with Volleyball Action and Community Spirit

Gangtok: Rabong New Market was alive with heightened energy and enthusiastic crowds on the second day of the state-level Discover Rabong Cho-Dzo Fest 2025, solidifying its position as a beloved and dynamic event on Sikkim’s cultural scene, celebrating the harmonious blend of nature, culture, adventure, and sports.

The Intra-Sikkim Volleyball Tournament 2025, a key component of the Discover Rabong Cho-Dzo Fest, continued to draw significant attention at Rabong New Market, quickly becoming a major crowd attraction; however, the day began with an unforeseen development as the scheduled opening match between Team Avengers and Team Chittrey was declared a walkover due to the absence or inability of one of the participating teams.

Despite the initial setback, the competitive spirit was swiftly reignited with the day’s second highly anticipated match, which saw Team Tarku and Raising Boys Radhu engage in a captivating five-set thriller that kept spectators on the edge of their seats, ultimately culminating in a hard-fought 3-2 victory for Team Tarku, showcasing exceptional sportsmanship and team camaraderie that drew enthusiastic applause from the appreciative audience.

The day’s events were further graced by the presence of prominent local dignitaries, including Dek Bahadur Sharma, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Ravangla, and Chung Chung Bhutia, the Food Inspector of Ravangla, alongside several Panchayat Members, underscoring the strong local support for community initiatives and the promotion of regional culture and sporting activities.

While the official dates for the Discover Rabong Cho-Dzo Fest 2025 are set from April 11th to 16th, the current momentum generated by events like the volleyball tournament indicates a vibrant atmosphere leading up to the main festivities, with this year’s edition holding added excitement due to the inaugural Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Open Volleyball Tournament, an anticipated highlight expected to attract even greater interest and participation from volleyball enthusiasts throughout the state.
