Bodoland Sees Transformative Development, Says BTC Chief

Guwahati: Pramod Boro, Chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), has declared a significant shift in the region’s development trajectory, highlighting four years of intensive initiatives aimed at reversing decades of neglect.

In a recent media interaction, Boro addressed the historical marginalization of Bodoland, asserting that his administration has prioritized inclusive growth and transparent governance to rectify past oversights.

“The Bodoland region was ignored by the system for many years. The centrally sponsored schemes were not properly implemented in the area. The state government also did not work for the development of the region for the last many decades,” Boro stated, reflecting on the historical indifference that hindered the region’s progress.

He emphasized the current BTC administration’s commitment to rectifying this long-standing neglect. “The priority of our government is to ensure the development of the region. In the last four years, our government has worked to make governance very effective,” he added, underscoring the administration’s resolve to bring about tangible change.

Key achievements highlighted by Boro include the successful implementation of irrigation schemes, designed to bolster the agricultural sector, and the revival of traditional industries, particularly handloom. With the restoration of peace, local artisans and women weavers are experiencing a resurgence. “As peace prevails in the region, our artisans have started working. We are very rich in the handloom sector. Women are very expert in weaving,” he noted, acknowledging the crucial role of peace in fostering economic activity.

Boro also emphasized the region’s rich cultural heritage and the growing trust among its diverse communities. “We are regaining trust among the tribals, various communities. Our culture is very rich. Bodoland is developing,” he affirmed, highlighting the cultural renaissance accompanying the region’s development. His remarks come at a pivotal time, as Bodoland experiences renewed optimism and increased infrastructural investments, marking a significant departure from its turbulent past.
