Billy Joel Documentary to Premiere at Tribeca Festival Opening Night

Entertainment: New York City will host the premiere of “Billy Joel: And So It Goes,” a highly anticipated two-part documentary chronicling the life and musical journey of the iconic American singer-songwriter Billy Joel. The film is set to open the prestigious Tribeca Festival 2025 on June 4th at the historic Beacon Theatre.

Directed by the acclaimed duo Jessica Levin and Susan Lacy, the documentary promises to offer an intimate and comprehensive look into the experiences that have shaped Joel’s celebrated songwriting. It will delve into the themes of love, loss, and personal challenges that have resonated throughout his extensive body of work.

The announcement was made by Tribeca Festival CEO and co-founder Jane Rosenthal at the NAB Show’s Business Show of Entertainment event, as reported by Variety. Rosenthal expressed her excitement in honoring Joel, a quintessential New York artist whose music has captured the spirit of the city for nearly a quarter of a century. She emphasized that celebrating such a legendary performer, who penned the iconic “New York State of Mind,” is the perfect way to commence this year’s festival dedicated to creativity and inspiration.

Co-director Susan Lacy shared her enthusiasm for the film’s selection as the opening night feature. She extended her gratitude to Jane Rosenthal and the Tribeca Festival team, as well as to HBO for their unwavering support in bringing forth what she described as an in-depth, honest, and musically expressive portrayal of the complex and talented Billy Joel. The Tribeca Festival is scheduled to run until June 15th.
