Assam Man Allegedly Murders Wife in Mizoram Days After She Elopes With Lover, Manhunt Underway
Guwahati: In a disturbing incident along the Assam-Mizoram border, a 35-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband in Mizoram’s Kolasib district, just days after she reportedly fled with her lover. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the accused, a 40-year-old man from Assam, who is currently absconding.
The murder came to light on April 5, when a local resident reported discovering a woman’s body inside a hut near his paddy field close to the inter-state boundary. Police who arrived at the scene found the woman’s throat had been slit, and believe the murder was committed the day prior.
According to investigators, the woman had returned to her ancestral home in Assam’s Hailakandi district in late March and allegedly eloped with another man. Upon learning of her whereabouts, her husband began searching for her. He is believed to have located her and brought her to the remote hut where the fatal attack occurred.
Following a postmortem examination at Kolasib District Hospital, the woman’s body was sent to her family in Hailakandi. Police say the suspect fled immediately after committing the crime, and efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the quiet border region, and authorities have urged the public to share any information that may lead to the suspect’s arrest.
