Major Boost for Arunachal’s Hydropower Ambitions as Rs 269.97 Crore Released for Etalin Project
Itanagar: In a key financial breakthrough for one of India’s largest hydroelectric ventures, Rs 269.97 crore has been handed over to the Dibang Valley district administration, accelerating the progress of the 3097 MW Etalin Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.
The cheque was formally presented to the Deputy Commissioner of Anini by representatives of SJVN Ltd, marking a decisive step in the execution of this high-impact infrastructure initiative.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu acknowledged the significance of the milestone, expressing gratitude to all stakeholders involved, including Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta, and SJVN Chairman and Managing Director RK Chaudhury, who were present at the handover ceremony.
Khandu extended special appreciation to the Mishmi community, whose cooperation has been instrumental in moving the project forward. He emphasized their vital contribution in aligning local support with the state’s broader vision of leveraging hydropower for long-term economic and regional development.
Set in the resource-rich Dibang Valley, the Etalin project is a linchpin in Arunachal Pradesh’s mission to tap its vast water resources sustainably. Once completed, the project is expected to significantly boost the power capacity of the Northeast while laying the groundwork for greater energy security and green infrastructure.
