Assam CM Hails Peaceful Response to Waqf Amendment Act, Credits Police and Public Unity

In the wake of the nationwide debate over the recently passed Waqf Amendment Act, Assam stood out for its largely peaceful response—an outcome lauded by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Taking to social media, CM Sarma wrote, “Despite having nearly 40% Muslim population, Assam has remained peaceful today except isolated protests in three places involving not more than 150 participants each against the Waqf Amendment Act.”

He commended the Assam Police for their “extensive groundwork” in ensuring law and order across the state, highlighting their role in preventing any major disruptions. The Chief Minister also credited the shared spirit of unity among the people of Assam, stating that communities across the state are united and focused on preparing for the upcoming Bohag Bihu festival with joy and harmony.

The limited protests reported from three locations were peaceful and effectively managed by law enforcement. Authorities, while remaining vigilant, anticipate a smooth and festive Bihu celebration.

The Waqf Amendment Act has sparked demonstrations in various parts of India. However, Assam’s calm and cooperative response has drawn national attention, with many citing the state’s proactive policing and deep-rooted communal harmony as key factors.
