Seven Insurgent Cadres Nabbed in Major Manipur Crackdown Across Four Districts

Imphal: In a decisive joint operation carried out on April 11, 2025, Manipur Police and security forces arrested seven active insurgent cadres linked to multiple banned outfits, dealing a significant blow to underground networks operating in the state.

The arrests spanned across Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kangpokpi districts, and targeted members of proscribed groups including PREPAK (Pro), KCP (Noyon), KYKL, KYKL (SOREPA), and KCP (PWG).

Among the key individuals apprehended was Angom Surjit Singh, 34, a PREPAK (Pro) operative from Phayeng Sabal Leikai, Imphal West. Also detained was Huidrom Sunder Singh, 39, of KCP (Noyon), who was reportedly involved in arms transportation and extortion activities and was tracked down in Checkon, Imphal East. Another significant arrest was that of Leichombam Pakpi Devi, 37, of KYKL (SOREPA) from Leimaram, known for her role in extortion and cadre recruitment.

Others apprehended include Moirangthem Suranjoy Meitei, 31, of KYKL from Lamlong Bazar in Imphal East; Mangsidam Wanglen Singh, 22, of KCP (PWG), who was caught with nine extortion demand letters in Lei Ingkhol; Md. Ashadon, 22, of KCP (PWG) from Urup Awang Leikai; and Hensonpiek Vaiphei, 23, who was arrested while allegedly extorting a truck driver along NH-2 near Kangpokpi.

Authorities recovered several incriminating items during the operation, including mobile phones, extortion letters, and personal belongings tied to insurgent activities. Officials confirmed that all seven individuals were actively involved in extortion, recruitment, or facilitating the movement of arms.

Security forces have hailed the operation as a major success in the state’s ongoing efforts to curb militant activities and restore stability in the region. Investigations are ongoing to uncover broader networks linked to the arrested individuals.
