Assam: Dismal HSLC Results Plague Rural School
Gauripur, Dhubri: A significant setback for education in rural Assam has emerged as Shilair Kachari High School, located under the Gauripur block in Dhubri district, recorded a strikingly low pass percentage of just 30.57% in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2025.
The results reveal that a substantial 109 out of the 157 students who appeared for the crucial board examination were unsuccessful in clearing it.
Maheswar Ray, the in-charge Head Master of Shilair Kachari High School, provided a detailed breakdown of the results. According to him, only a meager 2 students managed to secure first division, while 23 students achieved second division, and an equal number, 23, passed with third division. Despite this seemingly balanced distribution among the passing grades, the overwhelmingly high failure rate points towards underlying and significant academic challenges within the institution.
A critical factor contributing to the school’s struggles appears to be a severe shortage of teaching staff. Currently, Shilair Kachari High School is operating with a minimal workforce comprising only four teachers. They are assisted by one computer instructor and one tutor. This limited number of educators is tasked with the responsibility of imparting education to the entire student body, highlighting the immense pressure and potential strain on the existing resources.
Despite the persistent and debilitating issue of staff shortages, the school administration has reportedly been making consistent efforts to provide support and guidance to its students. These efforts are being undertaken against the backdrop of broader systemic issues that commonly affect educational institutions located in rural areas. The commitment of the existing staff to the students’ well-being and academic progress is evident, even amidst challenging circumstances.
The alarmingly poor performance in the recent HSLC examination has not gone unnoticed by education officials. The dismal results have prompted immediate concern and have ignited calls for increased infrastructural development and enhanced academic support for the struggling school. Given that the HSLC examination holds immense significance as a vital academic benchmark for students in Assam, stakeholders are now strongly advocating for swift and effective interventions. The focus is on preventing potential long-term negative consequences for the educational prospects of students residing in the region served by Shilair Kachari High School.
