Assam Achieves Significant Paddy Procurement Milestone, Transfers Nearly ₹920 Crore to Farmers

Guwahati, Assam – Assam has successfully procured over four lakh metric tons of paddy in the current Kharif season, a significant achievement for the state’s agricultural sector, announced Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. This substantial procurement has resulted in the direct transfer of approximately ₹920 crores into the bank accounts of more than 35,000 farm households across the state.

Chief Minister Sarma shared this update via his official X handle, highlighting the government’s commitment to farmer welfare. He further mentioned the recent announcement of a ₹250 bonus per quintal for paddy, expressing optimism in reaching the season-end target of 5.9 lakh metric tons. This initiative underscores the state government’s focus on bolstering the agricultural economy and supporting the farming community.

In related news, Chief Minister Sarma had previously stated that Assam has emerged as the third-fastest-growing state in India, a remarkable feat considering the economic landscape just a few years prior. He attributed this growth to the state’s pro-investor policies and consistent investments in infrastructure, institutions, and human capital, noting a Gross State Domestic Product growth rate of 7.94 percent at constant prices.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Sarma outlined an ambitious vision for transforming connectivity within Assam through the development of three high-speed corridors. These corridors aim to significantly reduce travel time between key cities, with a particular focus on connecting Guwahati with Silchar and Dibrugarh within six hours.

The Guwahati-Silchar corridor via Borapani is reportedly nearing completion, and ground-level work has commenced for the Guwahati-Dibrugarh corridor, reflecting the state government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and connectivity across Assam.
