Manipur: Man Arrested in Churachandpur Rape and Murder Case

Churachandpur, Manipur – A 21-year-old man has been apprehended by the Manipur police in connection with the brutal rape and murder of a young girl in the Churachandpur district. The arrest follows the discovery of the victim’s body in a forested area within the Thanlon sub-division on Friday, April 11th, according to law enforcement officials.

Details emerging from the police investigation indicate that the young girl had ventured into the forest to gather firewood. When she failed to return home, her father initiated a search, tragically leading him to her lifeless body. Authorities confirmed that the victim’s clothing was torn and that she bore visible injury marks.

The accused individual was successfully located and taken into custody from Khoken village, situated within the same district. Police reports further reveal that the arrested man is originally from the Pherzawl district.

The heinous crime has ignited widespread condemnation, with the Zomi Mothers’ Association vociferously demanding the strictest possible punishment for the perpetrator. The association released a statement asserting that “the repeated recurrence of rape only testifies the lack of respect and failure to protect the dignity of woman.”

This distressing incident marks the third reported case of rape involving a minor in the Churachandpur district in less than a month. Earlier this month, a ten-year-old girl was a victim of sexual assault allegedly committed by an underage boy. Tragically, last month witnessed the discovery of a nine-year-old girl’s body near a relief camp in the same district, further underscoring the escalating concerns regarding the safety and security of young girls in the region.
