Assam: Rongali Bihu Festivities Intertwined with Political Overtures by Asom Gana Parishad
Guwahati: Amidst the vibrant prelude to Rongali Bihu, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) convened a gathering with members of the press in Guwahati, seamlessly blending the spirit of the festival with significant political pronouncements.
The event, imbued with the traditional warmth of Bihu greetings, served as a platform for the party to articulate its vision and strategies leading into the upcoming political landscape.
At the forefront of the event were AGP President Atul Bora and Working President Keshab Mahanta, flanked by prominent figures from the party’s youth and women’s wings. Bora, in his address, conveyed heartfelt Bihu wishes to the people of Assam, while also outlining the party’s initiative to conduct Bihu workshops statewide. These workshops, he explained, are designed to cultivate a deeper appreciation and adherence to the authentic and traditional expressions of Bihu, aiming to move beyond spontaneous celebrations towards a more culturally refined presentation.
Turning his attention to the political horizon, Bora characterized the impending Panchayat elections as a pivotal litmus test for all political entities. He voiced unwavering confidence in the AGP’s prospects, asserting that the party, in its alliance with the NDA, is poised to achieve a favorable outcome. “Our commitment will endure throughout the new year,” he affirmed, projecting a sense of continuity and resolve.
Keshab Mahanta, the Working President, echoed the festive greetings and designated the coming year as the ‘Year of the Mother Tongue,’ urging a renewed focus on the preservation and respect of the Assamese language. He underscored the importance of linguistic awareness and responsibility within the community.
Reaffirming the party’s strategic alliance with the BJP for the Panchayat elections, Atul Bora emphasized the AGP’s sustained efforts in fortifying its organizational framework.
