Guwahati Enforcement Drive Nets Nearly Two Dozen Offences by Dumper Operators
Guwahati: Guwahati witnessed a significant crackdown on traffic violations committed by heavy vehicle operators as enforcement authorities conducted an extensive checking drive on Sunday, April 13, 2025. The operation, aimed at bolstering road safety and ensuring adherence to regulations, saw a total of 199 dumpers come under scrutiny across the city.
The rigorous inspections revealed a concerning number of violations, with authorities identifying 24 distinct offences. These breaches spanned a range of safety and regulatory requirements. Alarmingly, the most prevalent infraction was the non-wearing of seat belts, with 15 drivers found neglecting this basic safety measure.
Further scrutiny uncovered additional lapses, including 2 vehicles operating without the mandatory valid pollution control certificates. Authorities also registered 3 instances of drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, posing a significant threat to public safety. Additionally, 1 driver was found to be operating a heavy vehicle without possessing a valid driving licence, while 3 vehicles were caught exceeding permissible weight limits.
In response to these detected violations, enforcement officials initiated stringent actions. A total of 18 cases, categorized as non-First Information Report (FIR) matters, have been forwarded to the court for further legal proceedings. Furthermore, 6 offenders were immediately issued electronic challans for their respective violations. In cases involving more severe breaches, such as drunken driving and operating a vehicle without a valid licence, authorities seized 3 driving licences, signaling a zero-tolerance approach towards such hazardous behaviour. Officials have affirmed their commitment to maintaining road safety, stating that similar enforcement drives targeting heavy vehicles will be a recurring feature in the coming weeks. This sustained effort aims to cultivate safer driving habits among operators and effectively curb illegal activities on Guwahati’s roads.
