Assam: Journalist’s Home Attacked Following Sensitive Report

Duliajan, Assam – The tranquility of the Assamese New Year was shattered for journalist Brajen Gogoi on April 14th when his residence became the target of unidentified individuals. Gogoi, who is associated with a private news channel, reported that his home in Duliajan was pelted with stones in the evening, resulting in considerable damage to his property.

Gogoi believes the attack is directly linked to a news report he had filed earlier the same day concerning a tense situation unfolding at the Naoholia Police Outpost. Speaking to colleagues, the journalist voiced his apprehension, stating that the timing of the assault, immediately after his report, strongly suggests a retaliatory motive.

The local police force has taken cognizance of the incident, with senior officials visiting Gogoi’s residence to assess the damage and initiate an investigation. However, at this time, no arrests have been made in connection with the attack.

The incident has triggered a wave of condemnation within the journalistic fraternity in Duliajan. Fellow media professionals have united in solidarity with Gogoi, collectively calling for the immediate identification and apprehension of the perpetrators. This attack has once again brought to the forefront the vulnerabilities faced by journalists operating in potentially volatile environments and has amplified the pressing need to safeguard the freedom of the press in the region.
