Mumbai Cyber Cell, Morigaon Police Bust Cybercrime Ring in Lahorighat, Five Arrested

Guwahati: In a high-intensity overnight operation, Mumbai Police’s Cyber Cell, in close coordination with the Morigaon district police of Assam, cracked down on a suspected cybercrime syndicate operating in the Lahorighat region of Morigaon district. The raid, conducted on April 16, marks a critical success in the ongoing efforts to tackle inter-state cybercrime networks.

The joint operation was led by top-ranking officials, including the Superintendent of Police and Additional Superintendent of Morigaon, along with a five-member special unit from the Cyber Crime Branch of Mumbai Police. Acting on credible intelligence inputs, the combined team launched a targeted mission to apprehend individuals allegedly involved in online fraud and other cyber offenses.

The raid resulted in the arrest of five suspects believed to be key players in the illicit operation. In a dramatic turn during the crackdown, one of the accused attempted to hide in a concealed ceiling compartment in a bid to escape arrest. However, police managed to track him down and bring him into custody.

The overnight operation not only disrupted the functioning of a suspected cybercrime ring but also highlighted the growing need for robust collaboration between state law enforcement agencies. Officials described the mission as a significant stride in curbing cyber threats that often transcend regional boundaries and impact citizens nationwide.

Authorities confirmed that further investigations are underway, with digital devices and documents seized from the suspects now being examined for links to larger fraud networks.
