Assam: Bihu Performers Allegedly Assaulted in Jorhat

Jorhat, Assam – A pall has been cast over the ongoing Rongali Bihu celebrations following allegations of assault on members of a visiting Bihu troupe. The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday night in the Pulibor area of Jorhat, where the Dikhouporia Bihu দল (group) from Sivasagar had been invited to perform.

Sources indicate that the cultural exchange took a distressing turn shortly after the performers arrived at the residence of their host. Allegedly, the host began subjecting the Bihu group to verbal insults, creating an atmosphere of tension and discomfort.

The situation reportedly spiraled into physical violence, with accusations that members of the Dikhouporia Bihu দল, including one of the female Nachonis (dancers), were physically assaulted. The details of the alleged assault have not yet been publicly disclosed by the authorities.

In response to the alleged incident, the Dikhouporia Bihu দল has taken legal recourse by filing a First Information Report (FIR) at the ISBT Police Station. The FIR reportedly outlines the sequence of events, accusing the host of both verbal abuse and physical harm inflicted upon the performers.

Authorities at the ISBT Police Station have confirmed the registration of the complaint and have stated that a thorough investigation into the matter has been initiated. The investigation aims to ascertain the facts surrounding the allegations and take appropriate action based on the findings.
