US Vice President JD Vance Arrives in India for Four-Day Visit
International: US Vice President JD Vance has landed in New Delhi, marking the beginning of his first official visit to India.
Accompanied by his wife Usha Vance, their children, and senior US officials, Vance arrived at Palam Airport earlier today.
The visit aims to strengthen strategic and economic ties between the two nations.
This evening, Vance will hold high-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, scheduled for 6:30 pm. The meeting is expected to cover key areas such as defence cooperation, trade, and technology partnerships.
According to Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the visit will give a further boost to bilateral ties. All relevant issues, including the possibility of a trade agreement, will be discussed during the meeting.
Following the meeting with PM Modi, Vance and his family will visit the Akshardham Temple, reflecting Usha Vance’s Indian heritage. They may also stop by a shopping complex selling traditional Indian handcrafted goods.
The Vice President’s four-day itinerary includes official meetings in the capital, as well as trips to Jaipur and Agra, where he will visit the iconic Taj Mahal on April 23.
The visit comes at a time when Washington and New Delhi are deepening their cooperation in areas such as Indo-Pacific security, emerging technologies, and resilient supply chains. With Usha Vance’s ancestral roots in Andhra Pradesh, locals in her hometown of Vadluru are hopeful that the couple might make an informal visit during their stay.
Vance’s India trip follows his recent visit to Italy, where he met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Pope Francis. He is scheduled to depart India on April 24 at 6:40 am.
