Assam: Swift Action by Guwahati Police Leads to Arrest of Burglary Gang and Recovery of Stolen Goods

Guwahati: Guwahati city police have successfully apprehended three individuals involved in a recent showroom burglary in Beharbari, along with the receiver of the stolen merchandise. The breakthrough follows a prompt and thorough investigation into the theft reported last week.

The incident came to light on April 16th at 7 pm when Md. Asif, residing in Paltan Bazar, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Basistha Police Station. In his report, Mr. Asif stated that unidentified individuals had forcibly entered his showroom by breaking several locks and subsequently made off with a variety of household articles. The theft was also communicated to the authorities through an emergency call to the 112 helpline.

Responding swiftly, law enforcement officials registered a case and initiated an immediate investigation. A crucial element in the early stages of the inquiry involved the meticulous examination of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage obtained from the vicinity of the crime scene. This analysis proved instrumental in identifying and subsequently locating three suspects in the Sijubari area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Hatigaon Police Station.

The three individuals taken into custody have been identified as Habijur Ali, aged 18, Suksan Ali, aged 20, and Sanidul Ali, also aged 20. During the arrest, police recovered a collection of housebreaking implements from their possession. This cache of tools included an iron rod, a ring wrench, a lug wrench, and a metal bending bar, all indicative of their involvement in the reported burglary.

Further progress in the investigation was made during the interrogation of the apprehended suspects. The individuals confessed to their involvement in the Beharbari showroom theft and revealed that they had sold the stolen goods at a scrap yard located in Dot Bazar, within the Hatigaon jurisdiction. Acting on this information, police conducted a search operation in the specified area. This operation yielded the recovery of a significant quantity of stolen items, including grinder machines, various brass artifacts, water taps, approximately 15 kilograms of electric wires, copper wires, and a Pulsar 125cc motorcycle, all linked to the Beharbari burglary.

The investigative efforts also led to the identification of the individual who received the stolen property. Rafique Ali, aged 35, a resident of Sontoli, Aitapara, who maintains a temporary residence in Dotbazar, Khanka, under the Hatigaon Police Station, has been identified as the receiver of the stolen goods.
