Manipur: PREPAK (Pro) Trio Apprehended in Imphal East Following Kidnapping and Ransom Attempt
Imphal – Manipur Police have successfully apprehended three active operatives belonging to the banned militant outfit, the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) (Pro), in a significant operation conducted yesterday at Ngakhapat Adventure Kharok, situated in the Imphal East District.
The identities of the arrested individuals have been officially disclosed as Nongthombam Maingou Singh, aged 33; Nongthombam Mohen Singh, 45 years old; and Keisham Sana Leima, a 40-year-old female also known by the aliases Tamphasana and Lingjel.
Law enforcement sources indicate that these three individuals were allegedly involved in the recent abduction of two people in the vicinity of Naorem Birahari College, located in Khundrakpam. Prompt action by the police resulted in the safe rescue of both kidnap victims. Preliminary investigations suggest that the motive behind the kidnappings was to demand and extort ransom money.
During the course of the arrests, the police were able to recover incriminating evidence from the possession of the suspects. This included a .32 caliber pistol along with a magazine containing five live rounds, a total of six mobile phones, a black waist belt, and two two-wheeler vehicles.
This successful operation follows closely on the heels of another arrest made just the previous day, April 20, when security forces detained a separate PREPAK member, identified as Khundrakpam Katho Singh, 22 years of age, in the Sawombung Thongkhong Awang Leikai area, also within the Imphal East District.
