Assam Government Claims Rupture of Massive Job Recruitment Graft Ring

Guwahati: The Assam government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, has successfully dismantled an extensive corruption network that plagued the recruitment process for government jobs across the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced.

Chief Minister Sarma took to the social media platform X to declare the closure of what he termed a “Rs 15,000 crore brokerage shop.” He elaborated that by introducing transparency into the process of filling 1.5 lakh government positions, the state government has effectively blocked the flow of illicit funds that previously enriched bribe-takers and corrupt politicians.

Underscoring the government’s dedication to public welfare, the Chief Minister acknowledged the unfortunate reality that some individuals were willing to pay substantial sums, even up to Rs 1 lakh, to secure government employment through illicit means.

Reiterating the state government’s commitment to principles of good governance, CM Sarma highlighted the significant achievement of providing 1.5 lakh young individuals with government jobs over the past four years, all achieved without any instances of bribery or corruption.

In a video message accompanying his statement, Chief Minister Sarma elaborated on the scale of the alleged corruption. He stated, “If I had taken Rs 1 lakh from each candidate, I could have earned Rs 15000 crores. Just imagine, will anyone not pay Rs 1 lakh to get a government job? Will people give Rs 1 lakh if I say I will give government jobs? They would have given it to me, but we work for the poor people of Assam. We don’t need any money, and we will punish those who take money. Our youth should get a job without any bribes. 1.5 lakh youths have got government jobs in the last 4 years at absolutely zero cost.”

Separately, on April 18th, Chief Minister Sarma inaugurated development projects valued at over Rs 100 crore in the Karbi Anglong district. These projects focus on enhancing connectivity through the construction, widening, improvement, and upgrading of roads and bridges in the region.

Speaking at a function near Rengbonghom H S School in Diphu, CM Sarma emphasized the transformative impact of these projects on Karbi Anglong. He stated, “Today is an important day for Karbi Anglong. Along with other important projects, connectivity projects worth over Rs 100 crore have been dedicated to the people. All these projects will bring about unprecedented development in Karbi Anglong.”

Furthermore, at a program in Diphu aimed at distributing pre-school kits to Anganwadi Centres, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the importance of early childhood education. He explained that the provision of these materials aims to foster a joyful and enriching learning environment for young children, promoting their holistic development through play-based activities and diverse learning opportunities.
