Meghalaya: Tura Triumphs in Opening Clash of MCA U-16 Inter-District Cricket Tournament

Shillong: Tura District Cricket Association (TDCA) made a strong start to their campaign in Zone 2 of the MCA U-16 Boys Inter-District Tournament 2025 by defeating hosts North Garo Hills DCA (NGHDCA) by five wickets in a low-scoring encounter held in Mendipathar on April 22.

After winning the toss, Tura opted to bowl first on a surface that proved helpful for the bowlers. The decision paid off immediately as the NGHDCA batting lineup crumbled for just 39 runs in 18.1 overs. Only Chingjring K Marak managed to cross into double digits, scoring 12. TDCA’s Aniket Poddar led the bowling assault with a remarkable 4/5 in seven overs, supported ably by Doangkam Ch Marak with 3/9 in 3.1 overs and Ishan Saha who claimed 3/16 in six.

Despite the modest target, Tura’s chase wasn’t smooth. The pitch continued to challenge batters, and none of the TDCA players could score more than 7 runs. However, the 17 wides conceded by NGH bowlers proved costly, helping Tura reach the target in 16.4 overs, finishing at 40/5. Chingjring tried to spark a comeback for the hosts with the ball, grabbing 3/6 in 2.4 overs, but the damage was already done. For his match-winning spell, Aniket Poddar was deservedly named Player of the Match.

Zone 2 of the tournament features a single group comprising four teams—East Garo Hills DCA, North Garo Hills DCA, South Garo Hills DCA, and Tura DCA. Meanwhile, Zone 1 matches are being held in Mukhla Mission, West Jaintia Hills, since April 15, with Group A consisting of SCA-A, SCA-B, East Jaintia Hills DCA, South West Khasi Hills DCA, and West Khasi Hills DCA. Group B includes Ri-Bhoi DCA, East Khasi Hills CA, Eastern West Khasi Hills DCA, and West Jaintia Hills DCA.
